Professor Killion Munzele Munyama is a Polish-Zambian economist, academic, and former politician with an impressive career spanning several decades in academia, international relations, and politics. Born in Zambia in 1961, Munyama moved to Poland in 1981 to pursue higher education on a scholarship. He earned his PhD in Economics from the Poznań University of Economics in 1994 and has since been involved in research and teaching, specializing in international finance, banking, and economic development.
During his academic tenure, Professor Munyama served as a visiting professor at several universities, including Thessaly University in Greece and Ternopil National Economic University in Ukraine. His research has often focused on the impact of international financial institutions and economic policies on African development, producing key works such as Economic Growth and Financial Development in Sub-Saharan African Countries.
From 2011 to 2021, he served as a Member of the Polish Parliament (Sejm), representing the Civic Platform party. In this role, he held leadership positions, including Chair of the Parliamentary Team on Africa and Vice-Chair of the Sub-Committee on Financial Institutions. He was also a prominent member of the Polish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), where he worked on issues of migration, diaspora policies, and international integration.
Currently, Professor Munyama is a Senior Advisor in Multilateral Affairs at the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels, where he focuses on global development and cooperation frameworks. His efforts have consistently aimed to bridge gaps between Europe and Africa, promoting sustainable growth and advocating for the empowerment of African economies on the global stage. Beyond his professional endeavors, Professor Munyama is an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and the role of education in shaping societies.
